Sunday, September 30th, 2007 ~ Tropical Wave Batters The South Florida Area ~ A tropical wave came through during the night bringing lots of wind, rain, thunder and lightning. The winds were so strong it ripped the fall flag to shreds on the dock! Lots of palms were down and the patio furniture blew all around. We are very lucky it is not a hurricane! Keep your fingers crossed that we make it through this hurricane season! Mom, Dad, Tracy & Marsha Go To Mass ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Marsha went to 10:30 AM Mass this morning at St. Ambrose Church in Hillsboro. After Mass, they stopped off at Starbucks for lattes and scones. Then it was time to pick up Nana and bring her home with us. Kristin Comes Over To Work With Tracy ~ Kristin, Tracy's Speech Therapy masters student clinician came over this afternoon to work with Tracy. Dad and Kristin spent awhile working on getting Tracy's Powerpoint slide presentation loaded and working on Tracy's Imac Notebook. They hooked up her switches so that Kristin can work with Tracy on her Imac Notebook to advance her pictures. After several hours, they finally got it working. Macs are great but take a little getting used to if you are used to working with IBMs. Nana, Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch The President's Cup Golf Tournament ~ Nana and the gang watched the President's Cup Golf Tournament from Montreal, Canada. Cousin Dawn Goes Into Labor ~ Cousin Guy called to inform us that Dawn has gone into labor and that they are heading to the hospital. We are anxiously awaiting our new great niece and cousin: Isabella Grace! She is Sophia Lillian's little sister and due any minute now! More information to follow! Saturday, September 29th, 2007 ~ Mom & Dad Go To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom and Dad went to 10 AM Bikram Yoga this morning while Felicia stayed with Tracy. Tracy Vomits 8 To 10 Ounces ~ Tracy vomited about 8 to 10 ounces this morning. Mom, Dad, Tracy, Felicia & Luca Watch LSU vs. Tulane ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy, Felicia and Luca watched the LSU vs. Tulane this afternoon. Everyone is very happy that LSU won, although the first half was pretty nerve-wracking! Mom Goes To Get A Pedicure & A Manicure ~ Mom went to get a manicure and a pedicure this afternoon. She was overdue and it sure felt good to relax and get pampered for a change! Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch Florida vs. Auburn ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched the Florida vs. Auburn game this evening. Friday, September 28th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes For A Massage ~ Mom took a day off from Bikram Yoga and went to get a massage instead. She feels like she is fighthing off a cold. The massage did help and she is drinking a lot of water to help fight it off. Tania Is Off Today To Work On Her Research Project ~ Tania took the day off to work on her research project. She is working on her Psychology degree online through the University of Maryland. Mom thinks online courses are a lot harder than the traditional class room format. We are all very proud of Tania's perseverance! Tracy Relaxed & Caught Up On Her Beauty Rest Since She Does Not Have Hippotherapy This Afternoon ~ Mom stayed with Tracy after Felicia went home at 4 PM. They both watched some television while Tracy did her range of motion on her CPM machine. Tracy relaxed and caught up on her beauty rest while the CPM did all the work! Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Went For A Boat Ride To Watch The Sunset ~ The sun finally came out today and Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca went out on the boat this evening to watch the sun set. It was a beautiful evening with a nearly full moon. (The full moon was on September 26th!) Mom & Dad Order Thai For Dinner ~ Mom and Dad ordered Thai food for dinner this evening. They had Pork with Green Curry Sauce and Tofu Pad Thai With Peanut Sauce. It was really good! Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch 20/20 Interview With Jenna Bush ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched the 20/20 interview by Diane Sawyer with Jenna Bush. It was the first time that Jenna was interviewed and showed a very compassionate and much more mature side of the President's twin daughter. Thursday, September 27th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom went to 9:15 AM Bikram Yoga this morning. Let's just say that it took a lot of discipline to focus this morning. Must be the fall out from the full moon. Tracy's Speech Therapy With Nadia At NSU Is Cancelled ~ Tracy did not have Speech Therapy this afternoon at Nova Southeastern University. Nadia was feeling a little under the weather. We hope she is feeling better. Dee Gives Tracy Massage & Physical Therapy This Afternoon ~ Dee gave Tracy a much-needed massage this afternoon. He is such a good massage therapist and Tracy really enjoys her massages. Dee thought that Tracy seemed loose and that her tone was good after her Baclofen dose was reduced last Thursday to 120 micrograms per day. After her massage, Tania, Dee and Mom got Tracy prone (on her tummy) on the massage table to align her hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Although it seemed difficult for Tracy to adjust to this position, she tolerated 12 minutes on her tummy (2 minutes more than she did last session on Tuesday!) Dad Goes To Bikram Yoga This Evening ~ Dad went to Bikram Yoga this evening. He really enjoys his practice. Mom Grilled Some Pork Chops & Garlic Potatoes ~ Mom grilled some pork chops and garlic potatoes this evening. They were really good! Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch The Season Premier Of Grey's Anatomy ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched the season premier of Grey's Anatomy this evening. Following that, they watched the new show, Big Shots! There are so many new shows on television, even with TiVo, it is going to be a challenge to watch them all! Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 ~ In Loving Memory Of Sanddollar, Tracy's Horse In Hippotherapy Who Passed Away Monday After A Brief Stomach Illness! She was a magnificent animal, a gentle advocate, and a true friend. We will miss her! ~ Mom, Tracy & Tania Go To The Broward County Exchange Club Meeting ~ Mom, Tracy and Tania went to the Pompano Beach Exchange Club luncheon meeting at noon today at the Flaming Pit in Pompano. "Exchange is an all-volunteer, national service organization for men and women who want to serve their community, develop leadership skills and enjoy new friendships. Exchange is made up of nearly 1,000 clubs and 33,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico." Kathy and Susan from Bit By Bit gave an outstanding presentation on their therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy program. Mom also talked about the nurturing, healing effects of hippotherapy as seen from a personal perspective with Tracy. It was a very diverse audience and everyone seemed very interested in the presentation. Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy At FAU With Kristin ~ Tracy had Speech Therapy at FAU with Kristin at 3 PM this afternoon. Kristin spent some time showing Tracy pictures from People Magazine about the various celebrities such as Jennifer Anniston. She read Tracy a brief excerpt on Jennifer Anniston from an article from People and then asked her some Yes/No questions about the excerpt. Tracy did a good job accurately answering the Yes/No questions with head shakes for No and two eye blinks for Yes. Tracy surprised Kristin with a birthday present ~ her birthday was September 22nd! Happy Belated Birthday Kristin! Dad Attends A Local Community Meeting ~ Luca stayed with Tracy while Dad joined cousin Chip at a local community meeting. ~ Mom, Tracy & Luca Watch Dancing With The Stars: The Results This Evening ~ Mom, Tracy and Luca watched the results show for Dancing With The Stars this evening. Following that show, they watched the premier of Private Practice and Dirty, Sexy Money! There are so many new shows this season and not enough time to watch all of them! Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom went to 9:15 AM Bikram Yoga this morning. The class was packed, which added to the humidity and temperature! Tracy Gets Her Hair Cut ~ Tracy got a new look today! Kerri, Mom's stylist came to the house and cut her hair into a layered curly bob. It looks so cute and really brings out her eyes and pretty facial features. Tracy Gets A Massage & Physical Therapy With Dee ~ Tracy got a massage by Dee this afternoon. He and Tania also got Tracy prone on the therapy mat for 10 minutes. Then, Dee positioned Tracy on her right and left side to stretch her hips and shoulders. Dad Goes To Bikram Yoga This Evening ~ Dad went to Bikram Yoga this evening. He is really getting into his Bikram yoga practice. Mom, Dad & Tracy Take Luca For A Walk ~ Mom, Dad and Tracy took Luca for a walk around the neighborhood this evening. The temperature had cooled down and there was a slight breeze. It was really a pleasant evening. Tracy's Hippotherapy Lessons Are On Hiatus ~ Tracy's hippotherapy lessons are on hiatus until Bit By Bit can find another horse suitable for Tracy. They are looking for a horse or large pony around 14 hands tall so that the therapists can reach Tracy on the horse to support her during her sessions. Sunday, September 23rd, 2007 ~ Mom, Dad, Joan, & Tracy Go To 10:30 AM Mass At St. Paul The Apostle Church ~ Mom, Dad, Joan and Tracy went to 10:30 AM Mass at St. Paul The Apostle Church in Lighthouse Point. It was the first time in a month that they were able to go to Sunday Mass. Tracy's hippotherapy session was cancelled for this morning because her Physical Therapist was out of town for the weekend. Nana, Aunt Diane & Uncle Johnny Come Over For Dinner ~ I'll bet you'll never guess what Mom and Dad made for dinner this evening? How did you guess? Broiled Tilapia with Garlic, Rosemary Potatoes and Green Salad! (You are psychic!) Dad makes the best broiled tilapia on the east coast! Everyone enjoyed dinner in the dining room and then Aunt Diane served her famous home made carrot cake for dessert. After dinner, everyone watched Michael Buble's PBS concert on DVD that Uncle Johnny bought Nana! It was great! Dad Watches NFL Football ~ Dad spent the day and evening off and on keeping up with the NFL football games on ESPN. Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning after she made sure that Tracy was no longer nauseous. Felicia and Eunice were with Tracy and she seemed to be feeling better. Tracy Caught Up On Her Beauty Rest Most Of The Day ~ Tracy was pretty sleepy and rested in her chair for most of the day. Tracy's Hippotherapy Lesson Gets Cancelled Due To A Thunderstorm ~ Tracy did not get to go to her hippotherapy lesson this afternoon due to bad weather. It was storming most of the afternoon. Her Sunday hippotherapy lesson has also been cancelled because the Physical Therapist will be out of town this weekend. Mom will work on a rain date next week. Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch College Football This Evening ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched Oklahoma play Tulsa in Tulsa this evening. Thursday, September 20th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga This Morning ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning at 9:15 AM. It was another great class with lots of heat and humidity! She has met a lot of really nice people in the practice. Tania & Mom Take Tracy To Dr. Alberico To Refill & Adjust Her Pump ~ Tracy had an appointment with Dr. Alberico this afternoon to refill her Baclofen pump. He also decreased her daily dose to 120 micrograms per day. Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy With Nadia At NSU ~ Tracy had Speech Therapy at NSU with Nadia at 3 PM. Kristin, Tracy's speech therapy masters student clinician from FAU, also joined us to observe Tracy's augmentative assistive communications session. To begin the session, Nadia showed Tracy the decision board which had three activity choices displayed: Talking, Before & After, and Which Looks Better? The first activity Tracy chose was Which Looks Better. Nadia showed Tracy celebrity photos on the computer wearing various outfits. Tracy chose the one that she liked best from groups of three at a time. Then, Tracy selected the activity: Before & After. Nadia showed Tracy pictures of celebrities during their high school years and today. Tracy chose the one that she liked better from the two photos. Some of the photos were really hysterical; such as Denzel Washington, Brooke Shields and Conan O'Brien in high school. Next, Dr. Lowe and Nadia worked with Tracy's vocalizations. Tracy was in a quiet mood today, but did vocalize a few Ahhs! We plan to continue to work on this at home! Tracy Gets A Massage From Dee ~ Tracy got a much-needed massage this evening from Dee. He ranged and stretched all Tracy's major muscle groups and then worked with Tracy on her head and trunk control. Dad Goes To Bikram Yoga This Evening ~ Dad went to Bikram Yoga this evening. He really looks forward to his practice. Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch The Miami Hurricanes Beat Texas A & M Aggies ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched the UM vs. A & M game this evening. Go Canes! Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga This Morning ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning at 9:15 AM. It was another great class with lots of heat and humidity! It is definitely a practice that can become very addicting! Tracy Gets A Pedicure ~ Felicia gave Tracy a pedicure this morning. The color of the week is bright deep red! So Hot and So Fall! Tania Shapes Tracy's Eyebrows ~ Tania worked on Tracy's eyebrows this afternoon. She does such a good job! Tracy has some beautiful eyebrows! Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy With Kristin At FAU This Afternoon ~ Tracy had Speech Therapy with Kristin at Florida Atlantic University this afternoon at 3 PM. Kristin spent the early part of her session showing Tracy pictures. Kristin asked Tracy to look at two pictures of Eva Longoria in evening dresses. She asked Tracy to pick which dress she liked the best. Tracy seemed to focus on the white dress over the blue sequined one. Then Kristin showed Tracy pictures of different hair styles from magazines. She asked Tracy which of the hairstyles she liked best. Tracy seemed to prefer two photos; one of a girl with wild long dark hair and the other of a girl with a geometric angled bob. Very funky! (Mom is thinking of bringing Tracy to get a new look! She has such pretty curly dark brown hair. We'll keep you posted...) Next, Kristin showed Tracy some pictures of vacation destinations. She showed her a picture of hiking in Alaska and another picture of swimming with the sharks. Would you believe our wild Pisces girl would rather swim with the sharks than hike in the Alaska wilderness? Then Kristin showed Tracy a picture of a cabana on a beautiful beachside resort. This seemed to be both Kristin's and Tracy's favorite! Last, Kristin worked with Tracy's vocalizations. She asked Tracy to take a deep breath (from her belly) and to make a loud sigh: AHHH! Tracy took several deep breathes and also sighed, although softly. Kristin gave Tracy some home work, requesting that she practice her sounds at home. Tracy Stretches On Her CPM Machine ~ Tracy spent some time stretching and ranging her hamstrings and hips on her CPM machine this evening. Dad Goes To Bikram Yoga This Evening ~ Dad went to Bikram Yoga this evening. He really looks forward to his practice. Tuesday, September 18th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga This Morning ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning at 9:15 AM. It was another great class with lots of heat and humidity! Tracy Gets A Manicure ~ Felicia gave Tracy a manicure this morning. The color of the week is pale pink (Spaghetti Straps). So pretty! Dee Gives Tracy A Massage ~ Dee gave Tracy a much-needed massage this afternoon. He does such a good job ranging and stretching Tracy's muscles. Tracy's range was very good, especially her hamstrings and her upper extremities. Dee & Tania Do Physical Therapy With Tracy ~ Tania and Dee got Tracy prone over the peanut therapy ball on her knees so that she could weight bear through her hips. Tracy immediately lifted her head and turned her head to the left and right several times. Dee propped Tracy up on her elbows so that she could weight bear through her shoulders. Tracy tolerated this position for twenty-five minutes. Then, Dee sat Tracy in long sitting position and leaned her against him, so that she could practice head and trunk control. Tracy supported herself with some assitance by Dee, holding her head up. Tania Showed Tracy Her Powerpoint Presentation On Her Laptop ~ Tania showed Tracy her Powerpoint presentation that Juliet, last semester's speech therapy student from NSU, created for her. Monday, September 17th, 2007 ~ Dad Takes Tiffany To The Ft. Lauderdale Airport For Her 7 AM Flight ~ Tiffany left this morning on the 7 AM flight to Reagan International Airport. We sure hated to see her go. Everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed spending time with her. We can't wait for her to return for Thanksgiving! Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga This Morning ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning at 9:15 AM. It was another great class with lots of heat and humidity! Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy At FAU With Kristin ~ Tracy went to her 2 PM Speech Therapy session with Kristin at FAU. Felicia, Mom and Luca took Tracy to her session. Tania is having car trouble (argh!) and could not go with us. We sure did miss her! Kristin spent some time asking Tracy about her busy weekend! She asked Tracy some Yes/No questions about the Dave Matthews Band concert and about her weekend. Tracy did a good job answering them accurately with head shakes for No and two eye blinks for Yes. Tracy was blinking really clearly and quickly. Then it was time to work on oral motor skills. Kristin used the cinnamon flavored jelly lips to stimulate Tracy's lip movement. Then she spent some time encouraging Tracy to open her mouth and bring her tongue to the front. She did a good job relaxing her mouth and brought her tongue to the back of her teeth. After oral motor exercises, Kristin spent some time showing Tracy pictures from magazines. She showed Tracy a picture of Brad Pitt and Dr. Phil, comparing the two! Sunday, September 16th, 2007 ~ Tracy Goes To Hippotherapy At Bit By Bit ~ Tracy had her 10 AM Hippotherapy Lesson at Bit By Bit in Parkland. This was the first time that Tiffany accompanied Tracy to her lesson. It is so nice to have Tiffany visiting with us for the weekend. The time sure is flying by! Kristin, Tracy's master's Speech Therapy student from FAU also came out to see Tracy and Sanddollar. Tracy made it through most of her lesson when a huge rain storm blew up. Everyone got drenched, especially Tracy and Sanddollar. At first, it looked like it a sun shower and then the heavens opened up! Next thing we knew, Sanddollar was heading for the barn with Tracy, Dad and Ms. Susan in tow! Sanddollar was more than ready for a break and her apple treat! She is such a smart horse! She knows where Mom keeps her apples, and goes for it every time! Tiffany, Tracy, Mom & Dad Go In The Pool ~ Mom, Dad and Marsha got Tracy into the pool on her floating recliner for a little swim. (We had to throw Tiffany out of the chair first; it is so comfortable!) Everyone enjoyed the sunshine before the clouds came over again! It was a fun class, but tough as usual. Mom Takes Tiffany For A Pedicure ~ Mom took Tiffany for a pedicure this afternoon at Boca Nails. Dad and Felicia stayed with Tracy while she stretched on the CPM machine and rested up for the Dave Matthews Band concert this evening. Mom, Dad, Tiffany & Tracy Go To The Dave Matthews Concert In West Palm Beach ~ Mom, Dad, Tiffany and Tracy went to see the Dave Matthews Band this evening at Sound Advice Amphitheater this evening. We missed Tania and wished she could have been there with us! She had a project due for her class by midnight and was such a sweetie to give Tiffany her ticket. It had a long time since the four of us were at a concert together. What a wonderful spontaneous surprise! Tracy really seemed to enjoy having her sister with her to see their favorite band in concert. There was so much energy in the amphitheater it was unbelievable! Friday, September 14th, 2007 ~ Happy Birthday Nana Lilly! ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning at 9:15 AM. Another hot class! Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy At NSU With Nadia ~ Tracy had Speech Therapy with Nadia this afternoon at Nova Southeastern University. Nadia is really doing a great job and is very creative. After giving Tracy three choices of activities with her word recognition board, Tracy chose to talk first. Nadia recorded some phrases on the Step By Step sequential switch. Tracy hit the switch and Nadia talked to Tracy about her weekend. Next, Tracy chose to play a game called "Before and After". Nadia had pictures of different movie stars when they were younger and at present. She asked Tracy which one she thought looked better, the one on the left or right. Tracy looked at the one she thought looked better, and Nadia confirmed Tracy's selection with two blinks for Yes or head shakes for No. Lastly, Tracy chose to play a game called "Who Looks Better?" Tracy looked at pictures of two celebrities wearing the same outfit, and had to select which of the two looked better in the outfit. All of these activities encourage Tracy to interact more with Nadia. Finally, Dr. Lowe asked Tracy to mimick different vowel sounds (Ahh, EEE, OHH, EWW, etc. Tracy did a good job mimicking the Ahh sound but had more difficulty with the other sounds that required her to change the shape of her mouth. We will continue to work on these. Mom & Dad Had Chicken Wings For Dinner ~ Mom and Dad had chicken wings for dinner from Hooters! They watched college football while they waited for Tiffany's flight. Nana, Uncle Johnny & Aunt Diane Come Over After Dinner ~ Nana, Uncle Johnny and Aunt Diane came over after dinner this evening to say HI! Mom put a candle in a chocolate eclair and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Nana! It was fun! Dad Goes To Pick Up Tiffany At The Airport ~ Tiffany made it safely this evening from Northern Virginia. Thursday, September 13th, 2007 ~ Mom Takes Nana For A Birthday Manicure ~ Mom and Nana went to get their nails done today. Tomorrow is Nana's birthday, so Mom treated Nana to a manicure. It was fun to celebrate Nana's birthday at Boca Nails! Mom, Tania, Felicia, & Tracy Take Nana Out To Lunch At Houston's For Her Birthday ~ Mom, Tania, Felicia and Tracy took Nana out to lunch for her birthday! They had a nice lunch out on the patio along the intracoastal. Tracy was so relaxed that she slept through most of the lunch. There were a lot of boats out today in celebration of the Jewish New Year! Happy New Year! The waiter surprised Nana with a hot fudge sundae with a candle in it and everyone sang "Happy Birthday"! She was really surprised! Tracy Gets A Massage By Dee ~ Dee came over and gave Tracy a massage this evening. He worked with her for several hours! Wednesday, September 12th, 2007 ~ Tracy Goes To Dr. Alberico To Get Her Baclofen Pump Adjusted ~ Tracy went to the neurosurgeon to get her Baclofen pump dosage decreased from 198 to 158 micrograms per day. Tracy Goes To Speech Therapy At FAU With Kristin ~ Tracy went to Speech Therapy at FAU with Kristin this afternoon. We were about 25 minutes late due to being detained at the neurosurgeon's office. Kristin worked with Tracy's word recognition board, asking her to look at her name (among others including Tiffany and Tammy) on the board. Tracy did a good job with eye contact and looked at her name in the bottom right hand corner. Next, Kristin showed Tracy some pictures in an entertainment magazine. She asked Tracy if she thought Jennifer Aniston's new beau is hot! Tracy blinked twice for Yes! Next, she asked Tracy to look at a picture of a huge eye in the magazine. She asked Tracy if it was a picture of a mouth. Tracy shook her head No. Next, it was time to listen to music. Kristin got out Tracy's Ipod and let her listen to Dido, one of her favorite artists. She told Tracy that when the music went off, she would turn it back on, if Tracy made a loud sound. Tracy really likes the song: The Hunter. She listened to it for a bit and when it went off, Tracy made a sound for Kristin to turn it back on. She is vocalizing a little more each day! Mom & Dad Grill Pork Chops For Dinner ~ Mom and Dad grilled pork chops and steamed asparagus for dinner this evening. It was good! It always feels good when it's over! Luca Gets Groomed ~ Luca got his much-needed grooming today. He looks really cute! He smells even better! Tracy Gets A Massage & Physical Therapy With Dee ~ Dee gave Tracy a much-needed massage this afternoon. He felt that her tone had not changed since the Baclofen decrease almost two weeks ago. She still seems to have good range of motion. Then it was time to get Tracy on the therapy mat to work on trunk and head control. Dad Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ It was Dad's turn to go to Bikram Yoga this evening. He and Mom are very committed to their practice. Monday, September 10th, 2007 ~ Tracy Gets A Manicure ~ Felicia gave Tracy a much-needed manicure this morning. The color of the week is bright red! Bellisimo! Tracy Goes To Her First Speech Session Of The Semester With Kristin At FAU~ Tracy had her first Speech Therapy session of the semester this afternoon with Kristin at FAU. She was very happy to see Kristin after almost a month break! Kristin had a nice visit at home with her family during the break. We are so glad that she is back! Mom and Tania spent some time catching Kristin up on the various activities that Tracy and the family did over the break. Kristin spent some time showing Tracy various beauty supplies such as lip gloss, nail polish, perfume, room freshener, scented hand lotion, etc. She asked Tracy questions about the items, such as, "Would you put this on your lips (nail polish). Tracy did a good job responding to Kristin's questions with two eye blinks or ahh-haa for Yes and head shakes for NO! Kristin encouraged Tracy to use big head movements for NO so that there would be no question. Tania gave Kristin her notes from the questions she asked Tracy each day about her daily activities. Tania did a good job practicing her Yes/No questions with Tracy over the break, to keep her in the routine. Mom, Uncle Johnny, Aunt Diane & Nana Go To Spinning ~ Mom, Uncle Johnny, Aunt Diane and Nana went to 7:30 PM Spinning in Coral Springs. It was a fun class with a 30-minute climb right in the middle! Tracy, Dad and Luca hung out and watched Monday night football while they were gone!Bilateral Hand Splints ~ Tracy is doing a good job wearing her new bilateral clam shell splints for up to eight hours each night. Sunday, September 9th, 2007 ~ Happy Grandparents Day! Tracy Goes To Bit By Bit For Hippotherapy ~ Tracy went to her 10 AM Hippotherapy lesson this morning. She was tired this morning and had a more difficult time with head control. Emil Leaves Bright & Early This Morning ~ Our good friend Emil left this morning, heading north to visit family. We sure enjoyed his visit and are already missing him! Our Good Friends Lauren & Juliana Visited Us This Afternoon ~ Our good friends Lauren and her daughter Juliana visited us this afternoon from Lake Worth. They brought us a delicious lunch and we had a picnic outside on the patio. It has been over three years since we have seen them. Juliana was a newborn at the time! She is now a beautiful little three year old (going on twenty-seven!) She is so adorable. She spent some time telling Tracy about her visit to Gatorama and how she held a baby gator egg in her hand while it hatched. Juliana got a quick swim in the pool, before the thunder storm rolled in. After she went in the pool, Juliana gave Tracy a foot massage with Strawberry Lemonade scented lotion! We all know how much our girl loves foot massages! Luca enjoyed playing with Juliana too! Tracy Is Still Experiencing Nausea & Vomiting ~ Tracy is still experiencing nausea and vomiting. Dad had to empty her stomach (8 ounces) via her G-tube. Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch The US Open Men's Final ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched the US Open Men's Final this evening. It was a great two weeks with lots of fantastic tennis played! Tracy Gets A Pretty Plaque With The Word: FAITH On It ~ Our friend Anita and family sent Tracy an adorable little plaque with the word FAITH on it. Anita always signs Tracy's guest book with: Keep The Faith! Tracy loves it! Thank you! Melanie Gives Mom & Dad A Much Needed Massage ~ Melanie gave Mom and Dad a massage this afternoon. It is important for Mom and Dad to stay healthy and strong to give Tracy the best care possible. Tracy Has Her Last Breathing Treatment This Evening ~ Tracy had her last breathing treatment this evening. Mom and Dad continue to monitor her oxygen saturation, which has stabilized. Emil & Dad Grill Salmon ~ Emil and Dad grilled salmon steaks while Mom made a baby arugula salad for dinner. It was really good! Mom & Emil Go To Dairy Queen To Get Some Ice Cream ~ Mom and Emil went to Dairy Queen to get some ice cream. They brought Dad back a blueberry shake. MMM! Mom, Dad, Tracy, Emil & Luca Watch LSU vs. Virginia Tech ~ Mom , Dad, Tracy, Emil and Luca watched the Virginia Tech Hokies get beat (badly) by the LSU Tigers (48 to 7) Wow! What a game! Mom & Luca Went To Lake Worth For Mom's Hair Appointment ~ Mom and Luca went to Lake Worth for Mom's hair appointment this afternoon. Luca is such a good puppy and loves seeing everyone at the hair salon! Tracy Continues To Get Breathing Treatments At Home ~ Mom and Dad continue to give Tracy breathing treatments (Xopenex) ever 8 hours. Tracy is very blessed to have Dad as a doctor and Mom as a nurse! Without their expertise, chances are Tracy would have been admitted to the hospital for her care. Tracy Goes To Bit By Bit For Hippotherapy ~ Tracy went to Bit By Bit in Parkland for Hippotherapy this evening at 5:30 PM. Nadia came out to see Tracy on Sanddollar. Tracy did a good job with trunk and head control. The soft cervical collar is helping Tracy keep her head in neutral. Mom and Tracy fed Sanddollar an apple which is her absolute favorite thing! Thursday, September 6th, 2007 ~ Mom Goes To Bikram Yoga ~ Mom went to Bikram Yoga this morning. It was really HOT! HOT! HOT! Tracy's Chest X-ray Is Normal ~ Dr. Williams informed us that Tracy's chest x-ray is clear. This means that Mom and Dad with Dr. Williams' help were able to prevent Tracy from being hospitalized for aspiration pneumonia! Dr. Williams discontinued Tracy's Flagyl (antibiotic) but recommended that Tracy continue taking Levaquin. Tracy Goes To Nova Southeastern University For Speech Therapy With Nadia ~ Tracy had her second Speech Therapy session with Nadia at Nova Southeastern University at 3 PM. Nadia used the word recognition board and provided Tracy with three choices of activities to work on: talking, memory game, and runway fashion show. Tracy selected talking by looking at the word: talking. So, Nadia recorded some phrases on Tracy's Step By Step switch and Tracy hit the switch to initiate a conversation. Nadia talked to Tracy about what they both did last weekend. Then it was time for the word board again. This time, Tracy selected the memory game. Nadia showed Tracy some pictures of clothes, accessories, and celebrities on the computer. Last, Tracy and Nadia watched Fall Designer Runway Fashions on Style.com. Tracy seems to enjoy watching all of the wild fashion trends coming from Paris. Dee Comes To Give Tracy A Massage ~ Dee came by to give Tracy a massage and Physcial Therapy this evening. After Tracy's massage, Dee and Tania got Tracy straddled on the peanut ball with her riding helmet on her head and her soft cervical neck collar on for support. Dee sat behind Tracy and made Tracy hold her head up, to work on trunk and head control. Tania sat in front of Tracy and stabilized her feet. Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 ~ Tracy Gets Breathing Treatments At Home ~ Mom and Dad have been giving Tracy breathing treatment (Xopenex) ever 8 hours per Dr. Williams' order. They really seem to be helping her breathe. She definitely seems less congested and more comfortable today. Tracy's Fever Has Resolved Itself ~ Tracy temperature has returned to normal today. The antibiotics seem to be working. Tracy Vomits About 6 To 8 Ounces ~ Tracy vomited about six to eight ounces this morning around 10:30 AM when Felicia was brushing her teeth. Mom Reschedules Tracy's Doctor's Appointment With Dr. Alberico ~ Mom rescheduled Tracy's appointment with Dr. Alberico, the neurosurgeon who manages Tracy's Baclofen pump. Mom and Dad thought that we should postpone any Baclofen dose adjustment while she is feeling under the weather. We plan to take her next Wednesday at 1 PM. Mom Reschedules Tracy's Speech Therapy Session With Kristen At FAU ~ Mom gave Kristen a call today to let her know about Tracy's vomiting and potential aspiration. They both decided that Tracy needed a day of R and R. She can make up her first session at the end of the semester during make-up week. Mom & Felicia Take Tracy To North Broward Medical Center To Get A Chest X-ray ~ Mom and Felicia took Tracy to NBMC this afternoon to get her Chest X-ray. We hope to hear the results this evening from Dr. Williams. Luca Goes On An Outing With Maureg, Emil & Paul ~ Luca has fallen in love with Maureg, our good friend from Ireland who is visiting us with Emil and Paul. He has followed her around all day and they have been going for walks around the neighborhood. Maureg, Paul and Emil took Luca to the beach in Ft. Lauderdale this afternoon after Mom gave him a bath! He is having a wonderful time! Tania Reads To Tracy From Shape & Time Magazines ~ Tania read a story about Mother Teresa from this week's Time. She also read a feature article on Sheryl Crow from Shape. Tania Gives Tracy A Hand & Foot Massage ~ Tania gave Tracy a foot and hand massage this evening. She also brushed her hair. Tuesday, September 4th, 2007 ~ Mom & Dad Go To Miami For A Meeting ~ Mom and Dad left early in the morning for a mandatory meeting in Miami. Felicia, Eunice, and Tania were with Tracy throughout the day keeping a close eye on her. Dee Comes To Give Tracy A Massage ~ Dee came by to give Tracy a massage. He gave Tracy a Swedish massage and both he and Tania decided to forego Tracy's mat therapy today. They got her upright on the massage table, with Tania behind her for support. They did some chest physiotherapy to help facilitate lung drainage. Tracy Spikes A Low Grade Fever ~ Tracy spiked a low grade fever of 100.1 this afternoon and Tania gave her some Extra Strength Tylenol, which seemed to help. Emil's Friend Paul Cooks Us Dinner ~ Emil and Paul went shopping for dinner and then Paul cooked up an authentic Italian dinner. He is from Lucca, Italy, a little town in Tuscany. He made a festa buonissima: pasta with fresh zucchini and artichoke, seared Ahi tuna steaks, fresh figs with prosciutto, fresh mushrooms with mint sprigs, etc. It was delicioso! Tracy Vomits 4 to 6 Ounces This Evening ~ Tracy vomited about four to six ounces this evening. We are not sure whether her vomiting is from the change in Baclofen or from her antibiotics, or both. Tracy Still Appears Congested ~ Dad contacts Dr. Williams, Tracy's primary care physician. She orders antibiotics and some breathing treatments for Tracy. We start Tracy on the antibiotics and Dad gives Tracy a breathing treatment which really seems to help. He gives her another one during the night, turning Tracy on her side every one to two hours to help her lungs to clear. Dr. Williams ordered a chest x-ray tomorrow at NBHD. Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 ~ Tracy Has Her Hippotherapy Lesson ~ Mom, Dad, and Marsha brought Tracy to her 10 AM Hippotherapy lesson this morning. Tracy did a really good job holding her head up on Sanddollar. The soft cervical collar seems to be helping her keep her head neutral. Tracy is able to hold her head up for several seconds longer each time she rides. Sanddollar really enjoys the apple that Mom brings her, and looks for it after Tracy's lesson. Nana, Aunt Diane, & Uncle Johnny Come Over ~ Nana, Aunt Diane and Uncle Johnny came over for the day. Nana watched the US Open on television while Aunt Diane relaxed by the pool. Uncle Johnny joined us after his Masses in Pahokee. Mom and Dad grilled pork chops and cooked up some Jambalaya. Aunt Diane made some of her famous corn muffins. Sooo Good! Mom, Dad & Marsha Get Tracy In The Pool ~ Mom, Dad and Marsha got Tracy in the pool on her floating lounge chair this afternoon. Tracy really loves floating in her chair. The water was a perfect temperature. While Tracy floated, Dad worked on Tracy's range of motion in her arms and shoulders. She hung out in the pool for about an hour and then Mom and Dad got Tracy in a lounge chair in the shade. She really enjoyed relaxing with Nana and Aunt Diane. Mom Feeds Tracy Some Vanilla Yogurt ~ Mom gave Tracy several baby spoons of vanilla Activia yogurt. Tracy did a good job swallowing and seemed to enjoy it. Tracy Tries Really Hard To Say NANA ~ Tracy tried really hard and was vocalizing, trying to say NANA! Nana swears that she heard Tracy say NANA! Mom Brushes Tracy's Hair By The Pool ~ While Tracy relaxed in her lounge chair in the shade, Mom brushed her beautiful chocolate brown curly hair. Tracy loves it when Mom brushes her hair! MMMM! Dad Installed Some Pretty Landscape Lights In The Palm Trees ~ Dad spent some time installing some pretty landscape lights in the palm trees on the patio. They look really pretty! Mom, Nana, Uncle Johnny, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch The US Open ~ Everyone hung out and watched round three of the US Open this evening. Tracy was sure glad that Serena and Venus won and have a good chance of advancing to the quarter finals! Upcoming Guests ~ We are looking forward to our good friend Emil's visit. He will be visiting us from September 1st to the 9th. Uncle Mike and Aunt Cheryl are also planning to visit us for a long weekend in October. We can't wait to see them. Saturday, September 1st, 2007 ~ Dad Goes To 8 AM Bikram Yoga ~ Dad went to 8 AM Bikram Yoga this morning. Mom & Aunt Diane Go To 10 AM Bikram Yoga ~ Mom and Aunt Diane went to 10 AM Bikram Yoga this morning. It was a great class! Felicia Gives Tracy A Manicure ~ Felicia gave Tracy a manicure using the new polish that Mom bought for her at Boca Nails. She did a good job and the color looks awesome! Mom, Dad, & Felicia Get Tracy On The Tilt Table ~ Mom, Dad and Felicia got Tracy on the tilt table this afternoon. Once Dad wrapped Tracy's lower extremities, they cranked her up to 30 degrees for about fifteen minutes. They took her vital signs every five minutes to make sure that Tracy was dynamically stable at each incline. Tracy spent about fifteen minutes at 45 degrees and then 60 degrees. She did a good job tolerating these heights, so Dad cranked her up to 75 degrees for five minutes! This was the first time Tracy was at 75 degrees ever! She did a great job tolerating five minutes. Next time, we will increase her time to ten minutes at 75 degrees. Tracy tolerated a total time on the tilt table of 1 hour and fifteen minutes. Mom, Dad, Tracy & Luca Watch Boston College vs. Wake Forest ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Luca watched BC vs. Wake Forest this evening. Mom and Tiffany were really glad that BC won! Then they watched Cal Berkley vs Tennessee! What an exciting game! Cal Berkley sure made some long passes and runs! After football it was time for more US Open tennis! Mom was rooting for Isner and Young! Too bad they both lost! They played really well and should be back strong next year! Dad Orders Hot Wings, Summer Salad & Stuffed Portabello Mushroom From Bonefish Macs ~ Dad and Mom had some great food from Bonefish Macs. Mom loves their stuffed portabello mushroom and she and Dad shared a Summer Salad and some hot wings. Yummy! Upcoming Guests ~ We are looking forward to our good friend Emil's visit.
