Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 ~ Nana Passes Around 3:41 AM ~ Nana passed away this morning with Aunt Candy, Nadesha and the hospice nurse present. Thank goodness she did not suffer. Mom Cancels Tracy's Speech Therapy Session With Teresa At Imperial Point Medical Center In Bayview This Afternoon ~ Mom canceled Tracy's Speech Theray session today because she is with the family making the necessary arrangements for Nana's funeral Mass. Wilmene Gives Tracy A Manicure & Pedicure This Afternoon ~ Wilmene gave Tracy a manicure and pedicure this afternoon. Wilmene Feeds Tracy 4 Ounces Of Strawberry Yogurt This Afternoon ~ Tracy ate 4 ounces of Strawberry activia yogurt in about 15 minutes. She is doing a good job with lip closure and swallowing. Wilmene, Tracy, & Grace Hang Out By The Pool In The Sunshine ~ Wilmene, Tracy and Grace hung out by the pool in the sunshine this afternoon. Tracy is solar powered and loves the sunshine, and there was plenty of it today. Uncle Johnny, Tiffany, Chip, Aunt Candy & Mom Work On Nana's Obituary This Evening ~ Uncle Johnny, Tiffany, Chip, Aunt Candy, and Mom work on Nana's Obituary this evening. The Obituary came out beautiful, and was printed in the Palm Beach Post and The Oberver. It was also posted on the Palm Beach Post and the funeral home's websites. Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 ~ Dad Goes Over To Check On Nana This Morning ~ Dad went over to Nana's condo to check on Nana this morning. She was in a lot of pain, but did not want to take the Morphine yet. Guy is expected to arrive from Atlanta this morning. Wilmene Returns Today ~ Mom was so happy to see Wilmene return to work today. She really missed her! Aunt Candy & Mom Go To Nana's This Morning ~ Aunt Candy and Mom went to Nana's this morning. The Crisis Nurse came to do an assessment, and she met the criteria for a crisis nurse. The hospital bed finally arrived, and everyone transferred Nana to the air mattress. She was a lot more comfortable on the air mattress, however, requested some morphine around 1:08 PM. Thank goodness Guy arrived prior to Nana getting the morphine, as well as Anita and Rose Marie. They were all able to visit with Nana, and talk to her. After the morphine, Nana drifted in and out, and her respirations became more and more labored as the evening went on. Marcus Comes To Do Physical Therapy With Tracy This Evening ~ Marcus canceled Physical Therapy with Tracy this evening. He is still so busy doing Physical Therapy with the snowbirds. We should be back on track next week with Tuesday and Thursday therapy sessions with Marcus for Tracy. Aunt Candy And Nadesha Stay With Nana This Evening ~ Aunt Candy and Nadesha stayed overnight with the hospice nurse, keeping a vigil over Nana. She slept off and on, and had more and more difficulty breathing. She passed away around 2:30 AM Wednesday morning. The Hospice Nurse came and pronounced her dead at 3:41 AM. Monday, February 27th, 2012 ~ Mom Cancels Tracy's Speech Therapy This Afternoon With Teresa At Imperial Point Medical Center ~ Mom canceled Tracy's Speech Therapy session for the week. Nana is supposed to be discharged from the hospital some time today. Mom Goes To Spend The Day With Nana At The Hospital ~ Mom spent the day with Nana and Nadesha at the hospital this afternoon. Mom Rides In The Ambulance With Mom To Home ~ Mom rode in the ambulance to her condo this afternoon. She and Nadesha got Mom settled in her chair, while Diane picked up Nana's new medications. Mom Meets With The Hospice By The Sea Nurse This Evening ~ Nana is being admitted to Hospice By The Sea, so Mom had to fill out paperwork for her admission. Uncle Johnny Spends The Night With Nana This Evening ~ Uncle Johnny spent the night with Nana this evening. She was in a little pain, but Uncle Johnny didn't want to give her any morphine. Mom requested the Crisis Nurse to come out in the morning to do an assessment. Tiffany & Mom Go To Ft. Lauderdale Airport To Pick Up Aunt Candy ~ Mom and Tiffany went to pick up Aunt Candy at the Ft. We hope to resume her Hippotherapy sessions soon. Mom, Dad, Tiffany, Tracy, & Grace Go To Church This Afternoon For Mass ~ Mom, Dad, Tiffany, Tracy, and Grace went to St. Paul's Church this afternoon for Mass. It felt good to go to Mass today; they said a prayer for Nana. Mom & Tiffany Go For A Long Walk Around Lighthouse Point This Afternoon ~ Mom and Tiffany went for a long walk around Lighthouse Point this afternoon. Mom, Dad, Tracy, Tiffany, Chip, Eileen, Aunt Diane & Jeff Go To Seasons 52 For Tracy's Birthday Dinner This Evening ~ Everyone missed Nana, Uncle Johnny and Nadesha this evening at dinner. Nana is still at the hospital. Saturday, February 25th, 2012 ~ Mom Rides Her Spin Bike Outside By The Pool This Morning ~ Mom rode her Spin bike outside by the pool fpr one hour, while Tiffany enjoyed the sunshine and the hot tub. The weather was so beautiful, just perfect for hanging outside. Grace Feeds Tracy Some Coffee Yogurt This Afternoon ~ Grace fed Tracy Dannon Coffee Yogurt (6 ounces) for lunch this afternoon. She ate it in about 17 minutes. Dee Comes To Do Physical Therapy With Tracy This Afternoon ~ Dee gave Tracy a massage on the therapy mat this afternoon. He massaged Tracy's major muscle groups, then did some stretching and trunk and head control exercises. She did a good job sitting up straight on the therapy ball and controlling her head. Tiffany Works From Home Today ~ Tiffany worked from home today. It is really nice to have her here with us for the weekend. Mom Spends The Day With Nana At The Hospital ~ Nana is in the VIP Suite at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. She is in shock regarding her diagnosis, and is otherwise okay. Nadesha is with her and Uncle Johnny is spending the night with her. Mom, Tiffany, Tracy, & Dad Visit Nana This Evening At The Hospital ~ Everyone visited Nana at the hospital this evening. She is feeling a little nauseous, and it was decided that we do not do any further tests. Grace Massages Tracy's Hands & Feet Today ~ Grace massaged Tracy's hands and feet today with scented lotion. She is doing a really good job! Grace Does Oral Motor Exercises With Tracy This Afternoon ~ Grace performed Tracy's oral motor exercises with Tracy this afternoon, using the Z-vibe with the multiple textured tips. Wilmene Leaves For Santa Domingo This Afternoon ~ Wilmene left for Santa Domingo this afternoon for a few days. We are really going to miss her. Marcus Comes To Do Physical Therapy With Tracy This Evening ~ Marcus came to do Physical Therapy with Tracy this evening. He started with stretching and passive range of motion exercises while Tracy was on the therapy mat and then Marcus and Mom transferred Tracy to the peanut ball for head and trunk strengthening exercises. Tracy did a great job holding up her head while stabilizing her trunk on the peanut. Tiffany Arrives This Evening For Tracy's 30th Birthday Weekend ~ Tiffany arrived this evening for Tracy's 30th Birthday weekend. It was perfect timing so she could spend some precious time with Nana! She and Dad and Tracy came to the hospital to meet Mom and to visit Nana. She was diagnosed with Bronchogenic crcinoma with metastases to the liver. Mom Meets Nana At Dr. Martinoff's Office This Morning ~ Mom met Nana and Nadesha at Dr. Martinoff's office this morning. She is having some abdominal pain and some labored breathing, so Dr. Martinoff sent her to the Emergency Room for further evaluation. Nana Is Admitted To Boca Community Hospital For Additonal Evaluation ~ Nana had CT scans of the abdomen and chest, and she was admitted. We are awaiting further test results. Marcus Cancels Physical Therapy With Tracy This Evening ~ Marcus canceled Physical Therapy with Tracy this evening. He is still so busy doing Physical Therapy with the snowbirds. Dad Takes Mom To The Orthopedic Surgeon This Morning For A Cortisone Injection In Her Adductor ~ Mom had an appointment with the sports medicine physician, Dr. Carreira this morning for a cortisone injection into her adductor. She sure hopes it will do the trick, so she can get back to her Hot Yoga, Spinning, Running, etc. Tracy Eats Amy's Organic Veggie Lasagna For Lunch This Afternoon During Speech Therapy ~ Tracy ate 6 ounces of Amy's Organic Veggie Lasagna this afternoon during her Speech Therapy session. They were really quick and efficient to get Tracy in and out. Tanya Leaves For Her Return To Boston Today ~ Tanya left this afternoon for her return to New Hampshire. We are really going to miss her! He massaged Tracy, and did some aggressive passive range of motion exercises with her. Then Dee and Dad transferred Tracy to the peanut therapy ball from the mat, for some vestibular and trunk strengthening exercises. Tracy worked very hard, sitting up tall and holding her head up. Kerri does such a good job with Mom and Nana's hair color and cut. They had a good time, even though the weather was nasty and it rained cats and dogs. Cheryl taught a great class, and Mom and Dad loved the heat and humidity. Aunt Candy, Tanya & Uncle Johnny Go To Palm Beach For The Day ~ Aunt Candy, Tanya and Uncle Johnny went to Palm Beach this afternoon to tour Flagler Museum. They had lunch at the Breakers! Mom, Dad, Grace & Tracy Head To Miami For Tracy's Botox Appoinitment ~ Mom, Dad, Grace and Tracy went to Miami for Tracy's Botox appointment with Dr. Rubin this afternoon. He injected 600 units in Tracy's pecs, lats, and finger flexors. We hope to see an improvement this time around. Monday, February 6th, 2012 ~ Mom Cancels Tracy's Speech Therapy This Afternoon ~ Tracy was very sleepy from her busy weekend and Mom decided to cancel her Speech Therapy this afternoon. Mom found some really cute sandals in Francesca's Collection. What a cute boutique. Wilmene Feeds Tracy Turkey & Barbecue Sauce In The Safe Feeder This Afternoon ~ Wilmene fed Tracy some different foods in the Safe Feeder this afternoon. She dipped some turkey breast in barbecue sauce and also tried some cantaloupe for Tracy to practice chewing in the Safe Feeder. Mom, Tanya & Aunt Candy Go Shopping At The Town Center Mall This Afternoon ~ Mom, Tanya and Aunt Candy went to the Town Center Mall this afternoon to do some shopping. Sunday, February 5th, 2012 ~ Super Bowl 46! ~ Mom Cancels Tracy's Hippotherapy Session This Morning ~ Mom canceled Tracy's Hippotherapy session this morning. Tracy has a bruise on her tail bone, so Mom wanted to give her another week to heal. We will resume her Hippotherapy sessions next weekend. A Wounded Pelican Comes To Our Dock This Afternoon For Help ~ A wounded pelican came to our dock this afternoon for Dad to help him get untangled from a fishing line. He was just a baby, around 1 year old, and had become severely tangled in a fishing line complete with fish head! Dad and Mom tried to cut the line free but it was really tangled in his wings. Mom called the Lighthouse Point Police and they gave her the number to the "bird lady" in Lighthouse Point. Cindy advised Dad to put a towel over the pelican's head, and put him in a cage to transport him to her house. Mom borrowed Lola's crate for transport. The poor pelican had some bruised feet as well. The bird lady was so happy that Dad brought the wounded little guy to her. She was going to release the rest of the fishing line from the pelican, and nurse him back to health this evening. She plans to release the pelican to a bird sanctuary sometime tomorrow. Dad & Tanya Go To Starbucks For Lattes & Scones On Their Home From The Bird Lady's House ~ Dad and Tanya stopped for lattes and scones this afternoon on their way home from the bird lady's house. Yummy! Everyone Comes Over For Turkey Dinner This Evening & To Watch The Super Bowl ~ Candy and Tanya made a turkey dinner this evening, and everyone watched the Super Bowl. Wow! Saturday, February 4th, 2012 ~ Mom Goes To Erika's Hot Vinyasa Yoga This Morning At Awaken Yoga ~ Mom went to Erika's Hot Vinyasa yoga practice this morning at Awaken Hot Yoga Studio in Lighthouse Point. It was so crowded and really, really hot. Mom was so happy to be back practicing. Wilmene Skips Giving Tracy A Facial This Morning ~ Wilmene skipped giving Tracy a facial this morning, due to her face being a little sensitive and irritated. Dee Comes To Do Tracy's Physical Therapy This Afternoon ~ Dee worked with Tracy for two hours this afternoon. He and Dad spent time ranging Tracy's major muscle groups on the therapy mat. He massaged Tracy, and did some agressive passive range of motion exercises with her. Then Dee and Dad transferred Tracy to the peanut therapy ball from the mat, for some vestibular and trunk strengthening exercises. Tracy worked very hard, sitting up tall and holding her head up. Aunt Candy, Tanya, & Mom Go Grocery Shopping At Publix This Afternoon ~ Aunt Candy, Tanya, and Mom went to pick up turkeys with all the fixings for Aunt Candy to cook tomorrow for Super Bowl dinner. Aunt Candy is such a good cook! Nana is sure happy that Aunt Candy is cooking for her! Friday, February 3rd, 2012 ~ Mom Goes To Spinning This Morning ~ Mom had a great Spin class this morning with Jenn. It feels great to be back at Spinning. Tracy Has Speech Therapy With Teresa At Imperial Point Medical Center This Afternoon ~ Tracy had Speech Therapy with Teresa at Imperial Point Medical Center this afternoon. Mom brought Chik-Fil-A grilled chicken nuggets for Tracy to chew during her Speech Therapy session. She did not seem to like the texture, and did not seem to chew it very well. Tracy ate some of her pureed Beef Tips with Mashed Potatoes (7 ounces) and drank about an ounce of Starbucks Vanilla Frappucino during the session. She seemed sleepy and not really into her session today. Grace Massages Tracy's Feet & Hands With Scented Lotion This Afternoon ~ Grace massaged Tracy's feet and hands with scented lotion this afternoon. She also put Tracy's Yogi Toes on her feet for twenty minutes. Grace Performs Tracy's Beckman Exercises Using The Z-Vibe This Afternoon ~ Grace performed Tracy's Debra Beckman facial exercises and facial massage this afternoon. She used Tracy's Z-Vibe on her lips and around her mouth for additional oral stimulation. Mom, Dad, Tracy & Emil Watch The Mentalist This Evening ~ Mom, Dad, Tracy and Emil watched The Mentalist this evening. Everyone was tired and went to bed by 10:30! Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 ~ Mom Goes To Kate's Hot Yoga Vinyasa Class At Awaken Yoga Studio In Lighthouse Point This Morning ~ Mom went to Kate's Hot Yoga Vinyasa class at Awaken Hot Yoga Studio in Lighthouse Point. It felt great to be back to Hot Vinyasa after 6 weeks of recuperating. Mom, Emil, Wilmene, Grace & Tracy Go To The Movies To See The Descendants This Afternoon ~ Everyone enjoyed the movie: The Descendants this afternoon at Muvico in Pompano. It was a sad movie, taking place on Oahu, Kuai, and the big island of Hawaii. Beautiful scenery but oh so sad. Marcus Comes To Do Physical Therapy With Tracy This Evening ~ Marcus came to do Physical Therapy with Tracy this evening. He started with stretching and passive range of motion exercises while Tracy was on the therapy mat and then Marcus and Mom transferred Tracy to the peanut ball for head and trunk strengthening exercises. Tracy did a great job holding up her head while stabilizing her trunk on the peanut. Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 ~ Mom Takes A Long Walk Around Lighthouse Point This Morning ~ Mom took a 6-mile walk around Lighthouse Point to Starbucks this morning. She is really missing her Hot Yoga practice. Mom & Emil Work Out With Weights At The Lighthouse Point Yacht Club ~ Mom and Emil worked out with weights this morning at the yacht club. They focused on their upper bodies, working back, chest, arms, shoulders, etc. It was pretty intense. Tracy Has Her Second Speech Therapy Session With Teresa At Imperial Point Medical Center In Bayview This Afternoon ~ Tracy ate 12 ounces of Amy's Organic Cheese Lasagna during her Speech Therapy session with Teresa this afternoon. She ate all 12 ounces in 35 minutes. She also chewed two bread sticks and swallowed them, manipulating it with her tongue. Tracy drank about an ounce and a half of Starbucks Coffee Frappuccino during her session. Teresa was very pleased with Tracy's progress today. Mom Has A Consultation With The Dietitian This Afternoon ~ Mom met with the Dietitian this afternoon, during Tracy's Speech Therapy session. She was very impressed with Mom's detailed daily record keeping of Tracy's dietary intake. She gave Mom some ideas regarding supplemental nutrition, and told Mom that Tracy should aim for a daily total caloric intake of 1400 - 1600 calories.
